![]() ![]() The above mentioned Indonesian vocalist and Putri Holland 2010 (winner of that year’s “personality show” for young Surinamese Javanese females)2 are in the center of the spotlights. The intended message is that the young people performing in the music video have made it and want the world to be aware of their success. ![]() The video clip breathes the atmosphere of lush life and celebration. There are other characteristics with respect to the song that attract attention. The lyrics of the song are scripted in colloquial Dutch and the vocalist is an Indonesian-born former contestant of the Dutch X-Factor television music talent show. As the title already indicates the music arrangement of the song is grounded in zouk, slow tempo rhythmical sounds and relaxing harmonies originating from Martinique and Guadeloupe. ![]() In commemoration of 120 years of Javanese immigration to Suriname in 2010 a song called “Zouk naar jou” (“In Search of You”) was composed and recorded by Surinamese Javanese musicians in The Netherlands and released on the video-sharing website YouTube.1 This composition, as well as its visual representation, displays features that allude to the multiple orientations and identifications of the contemporary Surinamese Javanese community.
